LESTARI Partners Activities

USAID LESTARI works with government, private sector, NGOs, and community organizations to reduce land-based greenhouse gas emissions and conserve biodiversity in 6 priority landscapes in Indonesia. LESTARI is currently working with the nine institutions that will respond to local needs and contribute to the achievement of the program’s targets. LESTARI also maintains the flexibility to support additional organizations through the Grants Fund. LESTARI and its partners collaborate to accomplish the project’s objectives in the selected landscapes through improvement of:

  • District land-use governance
  • Management of conservation areas and protection of key species
  • Sustainable private sector and industry practices
  • Constituencies for conservation among relevant government and
    non-governmental stakeholders
In Aceh, LESTARI works together with:
  • Wildlife Conservation Society to support management of Gunung Leuser National Park and strengthen wildlife trafficking control
  • Yayasan Sahabat Cipta to empower Cocoa farmers in Aceh with knowledge, skills, and opportunities
  • Winrock International to develop a Sustainable Investment Screening Tool and build Public-Private Partnerships
  • PT Hydro to design carbon financing and Payment for Ecosystem Services programs
  • FIELD Alliance to mobilize stakeholders
In Kalimantan, LESTARI works together with:
  • WWF Indonesia to co-manage Sebangau National Park
  • Winrock International to develop a Sustainable Investment Screening Tool and build Public-Private Partnerships
  • PT Hydro to design carbon financing and Payment for Ecosystem Services programs
  • FIELD Alliance to mobilize stakeholders
In Papua, LESTARI works together with:
  • WWF Indonesia to co-manage Cyclops Nature Reserve and Lorentz National Park located in Sarmi and Mimika, respectively
  • Winrock International to develop a Sustainable Investment Screening Tool and build Public-Private partnerships
  • Blue Forests in co-managing mangrove conservation
  • PT Hydro to design carbon financing and Payment for Ecosystem Services programs
