LESTARI recently finalized two Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) for community rubber rehabilitation in the Katingan-Kahayan Landscape. The PPPs were signed with Bank Indonesia (contributing funding and training) and rubber products supplier PT Insan Bonafide (contributing training and privilege treatment for selected farmers with qualified products). The PPP agreements were signed at the Bank Indonesia office in Palangkaraya. The signing was followed up with a meeting with all of the partners to set up schedules and work plans.
LESTARI is leveraging these high impact partnerships to support natural rubber cultivation – a Low Emissions Development Strategy (LEDS) that brings about long-term, climate-compatible economic growth. Specifically, it is expected to achieve the following desirable benefits:
(1) improving livelihoods for residents in the landscape
(2) supporting the distribution of raw material to the local industry
(3) enhancing opportunity for better land management and protection against fires, especially in Pulang Pisau District
This partnership agreement will start with the establishment of dem-plots and a field school curriculum to improve on-farm activities by building the capacity and knowledge of the rubber farmers to adopt good agriculture practices and environmental management, as well as supporting the development of a market system that provides incentives for rubber production that meets certain quality standards. Initial field activities will start in nine villages in Pulang Pisau district.
